Become An Intern!
Become an Intern Team Member!
Getting experience in the field of psychology can be very difficult — but we want to provide an opportunity for you to begin exploring the field of mental health, education, counseling, and behavioral therapy! We are recruiting passionate individuals who are responsible, proactive, and ready to be part of our clients’ journeys to bravely speaking.
Internships can vary depending on the applicant’s interests, however, general responsibilities include coordination with families and their treatment, prepping for the camp experience by decorating and creating a therapeutic environment for our clients, overseeing the reinforcement prizes for the children (aka “sticker president”, “toy extraordinaire”, or whatever title you would like), and being ready to assist in the general administration and running of camp. You will be working with Dr. Ward and Dr. Patton, gaining invaluable experience to see how a small practice works, the administration and requirements of leading a group of individuals, and gaining insight into the therapeutic process and treatment of children with selective mutism. We will also likely have you assist in the treatment itself, gaining valuable clinical training and acting as a new person for children to practice their speaking with, if that is of interest!
We are accepting applicants on a rolling basis.
2021 Time Expectations For Camp Interns
The responsibilities and time expectations for interns will have several stages — interns are helping on the administrative side of Brave Explorers Camp well before camp starts and continue through camp and several weeks after. Although these time commitments fluctuate and may change for each person depending on their interest and roles, the following is a general outline:
During administrative weeks (mostly June and July) an intern could expect to work 5-10 hours.
Although we are not 100% certain what the time requirement will be for interns (as COVID has changed some of our plans!), we are holding a training on evidence-based treatment for selective mutism on the weekend of July 23-24, held in Seattle with in-person requirements for camp counselors. If you are interested in being a camp counselor or are interested in the field of mental health, this is great training to be a part of.
During the weeks directly preceding camp (August), the time commitment would be closer to 10-15 hours.
During the actual week of camp, we require that all hands are on deck! The time commitment would be the same as clinical counselors — Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 3:30 for the week of August 23 - August 27th, 2021.
